Santa Monica is a resort town partly due to the mild climate. The downtown area has been a popular spot since the 1980s due to revitalization and a growing number of jobs. It is also a tourist destination. Purchasing Santa Monica real estate will allow new residents a variety of recreational choices. The Santa Monica Pier contains the La Monica Ballroom, where many New Year’s Eve national broadcasts have originated. The Downtown District provides its own specialty shopping with an outdoor district that is pedestrian-only.
