Mar Vista / Palms Real Estate
About Mar Vista / Palms
Mar Vista is located on LA’s West Side. Mar Vista real estate is somewhat less populated than the neighboring Palms community, mainly due to zoning which beginning in the 1950s changed this area. During this zoning Palms was altered from a mostly suburban area to a neighborhood dominated by renters. Mar Vista borders Santa Monica and is known for its magnificent views of the ocean. This area contains a relatively inexpensive variety of single-family homes and apartment buildings. More than half of the residents of Mar Vista real estate reside in rental housing because of the concentration of apartments on the main streets such as Barrington Avenue and Venice Boulevard.
The price of real estate has risen in the area over the past few years resulting in new construction. Mar Vista homes for sale today include many of these new homes that are Mediterranean Revival-inspired houses. They are mainly located on Mar Vista Hill. There is a housing complex maintained by UCLA, which is nearby and they also have a block of small houses between McLaughlin and Inglewood Avenues. In addition, there are some 1940s tract houses located in the area. A north-central section of Mar Vista real estate – the Gregory Ain Mar Vista Tract – is a Historic Preservation Overlay Zone. It was built immediately following World War II and within this area there is a wealth of mid-century modern architecture.
The residents of Mar Vista real estate are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. There are four elementary schools, two middle schools and Venice High School is attended by students living in Mar Vista. There are several major through streets that connect Palms real estate and Mar Vista with nearby communities including Palms, Inglewood, Venice, Sawtelle and Grand View Boulevards.
Neighboring Palms real estate is primarily residential and consists of a number of apartments, single-family residences and commercial areas. The Westside Village is a high concentration of owner-occupied single-family homes and were constructed prior to World War II. Residents of Palms real estate are served by the Los Angeles USD schools. There are a number of recreational opportunities due to the proximity of the many communities surrounding Palms and Mar Vista real estate.
