About Malibu
Malibu real estate consists of 21 miles of Pacific coastline. It is a beachfront city with a population of 12,645 according to the 2010 census. The city was incorporated in 1991. Malibu homes for sale include many residences located near the Pacific Coast Highway. This land is considered prime real estate. There are also homes located in the canyon areas up to a mile away from the coast and although these areas are unincorporated, they are considered by residents to be in Malibu.
This is an affluent area that contains many beaches including Carbon, Escondido, Pirate’s Cove, Surfrider, Paradise Cove, Zuma, Westward and Broad. Although many beaches in Malibu are in theory public land, there are some of the smaller ones such as Pirate’s Cove that are private and charge a fee for access. Many Malibu real estate owners feel that limiting public access is necessary. They feel that respect for private property and the beaches is not as prevalent among visitors as residents.
One of the first areas of Malibu to contain residences was Malibu Colony. This area was opened to the public in 1929. It is today one of the most well-known areas of Malibu. It has been known as a private area for celebrities for many years. Today, this gated community contains many homes situated on small lots and they are priced in the millions of dollars. One of the most advantageous aspects of the Colony is the stunning views provided of the Pacific Ocean. They also include coastline views from Santa Monica to Rancho Palos Verdes.
Residents of Malibu real estate are served by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. There are three elementary schools and Malibu High School contains both middle school and high school. In addition, there are several private schools in the area. Purchasing Malibu homes for sale provides a great deal of recreational and cultural possibilities.
The Getty Villa, an art museum is just outside the limits of the city of Malibu in neighboring Pacific Palisades. The Malibu Art Association helps to promote the arts through demonstrations, show and workshops. There are a number of events held throughout the year including musicals offered by Malibu High School.
Additionally, Malibu real estate owners can enjoy the hills behind the city which provide a variety of activities. Including mountain-biking to running, hiking and horseback riding, there are also wonderful views of the Santa Monica Mountains, Santa Catalina Island and Santa Monica Bay.
